I received my training in Indian Head Massage (IHM) in Wales, from the award-winning Tutor, Marie Lloyd. My IHM certification is from TEACH Therapy, Cardiff, Wales, and is accredited by the Federation of Holistic Therapists, UK.

Massage is likely one of the oldest therapies known to human beings. The earliest written testimony appears to date to 3,000 BCE and the Ayur Veda, the Indian Scriptural text and foundation of Ayurvedic Medicine, was compiled in approximately 1800 BCE. The art and science of massage is an ancient means of relieving pain and promoting healing. It can be found in the therapy & practice of Oriental medicine and it was employed by ancient Greek & Roman physicians Depictions of massage appear on numerous Egyptian tombs and temples. IHM is widely practiced in the home in India and there are benefits to the skeletal, muscular, circulatory, lymphatic & nervous systems. Narendra Mehta (an Indian Osteopath & Massage Therapist) brought IHM to the West in the 1970’s. It is both an invigorating and soothing massage and is based on ancient Ayurvedic healing techniques, a form of treatment that works on the muscular tissue of the scalp, neck, shoulders, upper back, upper arms and face. It stimulates lymphatic drainage, which removes toxins and boosts the immune system and is a highly effective technique for the treatment of stress and stress-related conditions.

IHM has developed into a flowing sequence of non-invasive, relaxing and rhythmic movements. The client is seated in a comfortable straight-backed chair and does not have to remove clothing or choose to experience the oils, although I recommend the oils for those clients without allergies.

Below is a shortened list of conditions that may be improved with regular IHM:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Nervous tension
  • Poor concentration
  • Congestion
  • Headaches
  • Sinusitus
  • General aches
  • Blocked intuition
  • Hair loss
  • Muscular spasm
  • Fibrositis
  • Dandruff and dry hair
  • Jaw ache
  • Tinnitus

IHM is a safe and effective therapy, however, if you have any medical concerns, it is recommended that you speak with your family physician regarding your suitability before your first treatment.

If your family physician indicates that you have contraindications I recommend Reiki instead as a lovely healing session.

An IHM session is 30-45 minutes. Please allow time for the assessment before treatment and some time to relax afterwards and rehydrate.

Fee: $50.00
