“Fears, values, and beliefs are what Ho’oponopono calls “erroneous memories.”  Luc Bodin,M.D.

This is how the Law of Attraction works: When you are clear inside, you get what you want or you get something even better than what you consciously want. But if you aren’t clear inside, you often keep hitting blocks – and usually the same ones.”   Joe Vitale

About 20 years or so ago one of my closest friends sent me a return ticket to Maui, Hawaii. It was only a five day trip and yet it changed me forever. I came very close to losing my life in Hawaii, as did my friend, when we were both suddenly picked up and swept into the Pacific Ocean, dragged along the ocean floor, by a rogue wave. I had never heard of a rogue wave, neither had she. However, undaunted, realizing it hadn’t been our time, this did not stop us from having many adventures in beautiful Maui. Transformation resulted. When standing near an extinct volcano and petting a black feral dog with red eyes, I remember thinking to myself – is this goddess Pele, shape-shifted? I fell in love with Hawaii. Not the American- occupied Hawaii, but the Hawaii that remains regardless of the occupation. The Hawaiian people who on the Road to Hana held up signs saying “please help us.”

After returning to Canada I started to do a little research regarding Hawaii. I delved a little into Huna which fascinated me. Huna is a modern/western label given to a very ancient system. In ancient times the teachings that I refer to were not called Huna, because Huna means “secret”; however, we use this term as it has become widely recognized.

What we refer to as Huna is one of the original arts and sciences of spiritual development  – and research indicates that it may be as old as 35,000 years and was a part of the original teachings of the people of the earth centered in a continent where Hawaii now exists as an island chain. Apparently, Huna was originally called Ho’omana. Ho’o means to make and mana means life force. Taken together then, the word Ho’omana means empowerment or to empower.

Back home I came across Ho’oponopono which I had not heard of before – remember this was 20 years ago and at that point I was teaching Hatha Yoga in Victoria, B.C. I was fascinated to discover that Ho’oponopono is based on ancestral Hawaiian shamanic ritual and that this healing practice teaches us how to clear our consciousness of negative memories, unconscious fears, and dysfunctional programming while granting ourselves peace, forgiveness and love. Ho’oponopono is deceptively simple. While some people delve in deeply to explore and explain this practice by drawing on quantum physics and epigenetics, basically, what this practice involves is a prayer or mantra that has you apologizing to your Self, your memory, and the event or person in question, so you can forgive yourself, heal your memories and cleanse your perception. Although the process is incredibly simple – you must first recognize your own responsibility for creating the events in your life, then, you are ready to apply the mantra of Ho’oponopono: “I’m sorry, forgive me, thank you, I love you.” (The Book of Ho’oponopono :The Hawaiian Practice of Forgiveness & Healing, by Bodin, Lamboy, Graciet)

Many of you out there in cyber space are likely familiar with this practice and have stories to tell. However, this subject is what the Angels guided me to talk about today. It is such a simple practice and takes very little time and yet can change your world. One of my teachers, Joe Vitale, wrote a book and did work with Dr. Ihaleakla Hew Len, the famous Hawaiian therapist whom you are most likely aware of. Dr. Hew Len helped heal an entire ward of mentally ill criminals – without seeing any of them in his office! Dr. Hew Len’s method involves cleansing yourself of all memories or negativity in order to see change in yourself and also others. It is based on the belief that when we take care of our own issues, they disappear in other people. This makes perfect sense to me, as we are all ONE.

The basic assumption of this simple clearing practice is that every action we take is coming from inspiration or memory. Inspiration being a direct signal from Spirit and memory being a programme in our subconscious mind. Almost all of the time we are coming from the place of memory and so our work is to clean those memories so we can act from inspired signals from Spirit instead.

Would you like to try this simple prayer right now? If so, think of someone or something in your life who frustrates you. It could be a co-worker or you might have a health problem. It actually doesn’t matter what or who it is. Choose something so you can try it out.  As you hold the thing/person in your awareness silently begin repeating the four phrases: “”I’m sorry. Forgive me. Thank you. I love you.” Do this while directing them to Spirit/God/Source. Regardless of whether you believe it is working – just trust the process and continue. After awhile, when you have been working with this mantra for awhile – all you need do is repeat “I love you” and you will begin to feel love and begin to transform the person or thing.

How does this work you ask? It works because there is no ‘out there’. It is all in you. It is all about your relationship to Spirit. And all you need do to clean up your relationship with Spirit is to say three little words. “I love you.”

If you are brand new to Ho’oponopono it may seem strange at first. This is due to the fact that your model of the world may not match this ‘new’ model of the world. The so-called ‘new’ model of the world (it is actually ancient) is the one as depicted in A Course in Miracles which I studied over a period of two years and will return to likely in the future as most folks are lifelong students. The Course teaches that the entire world is a projection of what you feel inside. “Behold the great projection.” So, if you feel love, you will attract love and because love contains gratitude, you attract more to be grateful for.

I resonate intuitively with this ‘new’ (ancient) model. I have a memory of being nine years old and suddenly stopping what I was doing as into my mind came the thought.” All this is God’s dream.” I suddenly realized, with such clarity, that everything I was experiencing and seeing was a dream of God’s. As an adult I feel this as an awareness that we are all projections in the Mind of God and that when we align with God’s Love our healing is reflected in everything around us. All separation is a grand illusion. That is why it only takes one person believing in and channeling God’s Love to heal another receptive to that healing.

During my Yoga teacher training over 30 years ago now one of my teachers told us a story about Krishna (whom I now work with) that I have never forgotten because it resonated as truth. When Krishna was a little toddler, his mother came to him and thought that he had put something into his mouth, and so very worried she took him by the shoulders and firmly ordered him to open his mouth immediately so she could see what was inside. Krishna did so and his mother saw the world.

Joe Vitale, who certified me as an Advanced Law of Attraction Coach, has a true story which will inspire you. Many years ago now, Joe’s chest was filled with swollen lymph nodes and the cancer specialist painted a dark picture and wanted to do an immediate biopsy. Instead, Joe chose to send out a call to close friends, healers and others who offered suggestions which he acted upon. However, Joe also practiced Ho’oponopono lying on his bed and silently repeating “I love you” over and over again in his mind to the Divine (the Key). As Joe did so he pictured the swollen lymph nodes in his chest (as pictured on his medical scan) and he began to talk to them. He asked them, “What do you want me to learn?” and “What do you want to tell me?” Almost instantly Joe saw an image of his wife who had died three years previously. Joe began to sense that the swollen lymph nodes  were a symbol for holding on to her and he realized the nodes ( which looked like tiny little creatures) seemed to be a solid metaphor for having not totally let go of his wife. He continued the four statements and after about 20 minutes he felt clear. He loved them, heard their message, and let them go. Later, when he had his MRI they were shown to be harmless.

I have practiced Ho’oponopono at Awakening Spirit for the past decade, combining it with my other modalities such as Reiki, Reiki Drumming, Angel Therapy(R), Matrix Energetics(TM) and New Russian Knowledge. Therefore, it is not possible for me to tease apart from which modality some healings resulted as they work together. However, I did use the mantra on its own once, when doing a session for a little boy in Australia with severe anger issues (upon his mother’s request). I connected with Jeremy’s (not his name) Higher Self first to ask if he would accept a healing. Jeremy was open to healing. Jeremy was undergoing counseling and play therapy but his mother indicated progress was nil to slow.  I connected to Jeremy and used Ho’oponopono for about twenty to 30 minutes if memory serves. Jeremy’s mother reported back that there was a turn-a-round which gave the entire family relief she said.

Joe tells us about a schoolteacher who had read Joe’s books. This schoolteacher in the States works with children with special needs. He began practicing this “I love you” meditation. One of his students was almost catatonic and would simply stare at him with drool coming out of his mouth, unresponsive. So, this teacher decided not to work with the child but to work with himself. He sat in the classroom and quietly repeated “I love you” while thinking of the child for several minutes. He then went over to the student and asked him if he wanted to work on a math problem. To the teacher’s amazement, the child looked at him and said, “Yes, I’ll try that now.” The student then proceeded to work at his desk for the next 30 minutes. Instead of working on the student, which is trying to change the outer, he worked on himself and the child changed. If that is not a miracle, what is?

While in my practice I combine, as I said, Ho’oponopono with other modalities – it is a very effective, stand alone healing practice. Many people use it alongside Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique).

As Krishna’s mother saw with Krishna – the whole world is within you, dear divine being. As you heal yourself, the outer world heals. You do not any longer have to think of another person as resistant  – because that is actually a reflection of you. It is some part of your own resistance. Whatever we see outside ourselves is a projection of ourselves. However, Free Will still prevails. We can heal ourselves and others, if we are willing, with a 4 phrase simple mantra/petition: “I’m sorry, forgive me, thank you, I love you.” It is deceptively simple.

I love you,   Monica
